Empowering Tomorrow’s Innovators
At Children Across America, we believe in the power of education to shape a brighter future for all. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our newest initiative: Girls Love to Code. Designed to inspire and empower girls in grades K-5, this STEM program is set to revolutionize the way young minds engage with technology.
What is Girls Love to Code?
Girls Love to Code isn’t just another extracurricular activity—it’s a pathway to limitless possibilities. This innovative program invites young girls to dive headfirst into the world of coding, unlocking their potential as future leaders in STEM fields. Held on Saturdays during the school year as part of our Saturday STREAM Club, Girls Love to Code offers a supportive and enriching environment where girls can explore the exciting realms of computer science and technology.
Why Girls Love to Code Matters
Gender inequity in STEM education and careers isn’t just a problem for women—it’s a challenge that affects us all. Studies show that despite comparable levels of achievement in science and mathematics during K-12 education, girls are significantly less likely than boys to pursue STEM-related careers. By middle school, boys are already twice as likely to express interest in science or engineering jobs, and by college, they’re five times more likely to choose a STEM career path.
These disparities only worsen in the workplace, where male-dominated company cultures, lack of female representation at leadership levels, and gender biases hinder the progress of women in STEM fields. The recent pandemic has only exacerbated these trends, with women in STEM leaving the workforce at alarming rates.
Our Call to Action
At Children Across America, we’re committed to driving positive change in STEM education and beyond. That’s why we’re calling on stakeholders from all sectors to join us in this crucial mission. Here are just a few ways we can work together to create a more inclusive and equitable STEM landscape:
- Support K-12 educators: Provide resources and training to effectively engage girls in STEM education.
- Ensure continuity in STEM education: Decrease dropout rates from K-12 through undergraduate years to foster sustained interest and participation.
- Promote inclusive workplace cultures: Implement policies to address bias, improve pay transparency, and support caregivers in STEM fields.
- Empower women entrepreneurs: Provide access to capital, resources, and networking opportunities to support women-led ventures in STEM.
Join Us in Shaping the Future
Together, we can break down barriers and pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future in STEM. Whether you’re a parent, educator, business leader, or policymaker, your support is vital to our success. Let’s empower our girls to dream big, aim high, and rewrite the script for generations to come.
